b). a). I've finally picked out two specific locations were superfund sites are at their highest ranking. Superfund Site A is located on the Hudson, with a ranking of a about 58. One of the highest in New York. Superfund Site B is located near Old Bethpage a town located on Long Island. This Superfund Site is also ranked in the 50's. I've started to lock down a lot of hazardous problems that are reoccurring especially on the Hudson River Site where a lot of PCB's are being placed into the river which not only is disrupting human health, but ecosystems.
This week I have mapped out all superfund sites that are on the NPL and that were recently taken off the list. I've noticed a majority of superfund sites are located on Long Island, which all have a high ranking of over 50. I guess my only question this week is why does Long Island have more Superfund Sites than say Albany, or Buffalo? What slows down decontamination processes downstate?
This past week I have been trying to locate certain superfund sites that are over 50, I've found information of EPA's websites along with average data that is recorded monthly. I've started the breakdown between certain Superfund sites but next week I plan on narrowing my searches down.

Proposal: Superfund Sites in New York State

Introduction New York State has many brownfield sites, which are previously built upon or as opposed to green field land. In Brownfield land areas sites are highly contaminated and have severely high concentrations of hazardous waste and pollution. Brownfields are similar to superfund sites, which superfund sites require long-term response to clean up hazardous material contaminations. Superfund sites are deep threat or danger to the public, they are irreversible to the public health and environment. Objective The Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site Program for New York State involves the identification, investigation, clean-up, and monitoring process stages. I propose to highlight the stages and processes that the state employs to investigate and categorize hazardous waste sites and to determine remediation. In accordance with the State Superfund Program I will address the Class Sites identified under DEC law. My primary focus will be on the remediation process identifyi...
